Where to put your greenhouse

Setting up the greenhouse – build your own greenhouse of natural materials

Mads from TagTomat wants to set up a greenhouse at his holiday home in Sweden. It can be a difficult decision and you may need to consider a lot of things beforehand. It might even be necessary to build with branches and leaves.

Please, continue reading and find out why TagTomat thinks it is a good idea to build your own greenhouse construction to find just the right spot for the greenhouse. In Mads’ case, it meant that the greenhouse got a completely different spot than what he and his family originally had thought.

A greenhouse built of branches and leaves

This blog is about how you visually can imagine the size of your greenhouse and get an idea of how much space it will take up, so you can decide whether the size and location are the right choice for your garden. In addition, it is also important to consider other things such as the location in terms of sunlight and shade or how far away the greenhouse should be from a fence or hedge.

A guide to build a greenhouse construction of nature’s fallen leaves and branches

The first thing we did was to measure the greenhouse square metres, and then collect a lot of leaves to indicate the length and width of the greenhouse. It will give you an idea of how big the greenhouse will be.

Then we collected a lot of fallen leaves and some branches, that we found in the garden for then to build the greenhouse profiles. We used some thick branches for the four corners and some longer and thinner branches for the sides and the roof. The corner branches and the two branches for the sides were put in the ground, and the other branches were tied together with some string to form the shape of the greenhouse.

The greenhouse profiles shown on our assembly instructions ended up being almost the same as the measurements we had made with the branches. This also made it much easier to find out if it would fit in.

It may be a good idea to keep this greenhouse construction for a while, so you get a chance to come back and see whether the location feels right for you. In fact, after several considerations, Mads and his family found out that where they had built the greenhouse made of branches, was not the right spot and it did not really fit in after all.

After much consideration and branch greenhouses, the right location for the new greenhouse was finally found. Now, it was time to get the greenhouse transported to Sweden, where the greenhouse materials are now and are ready to be assembled. Hopefully, a lot of vegetables can be cultivated in the greenhouse next spring. But for now, the greenhouse will be under the house until it is time to set it up.

It may take a weekend to play around with leaves and branches and to build greenhouses made of branches. However, it is a lot of fun, and you will get a good feel for where to set it up – and it is a fun activity for the whole family.

Have fun building your greenhouse!
